Tanzania 28 Cocktail

Tanzania 28 Cocktail

I recently returned from a two-week trip to East Africa and it’s been an interesting experience to transition from observing herds of elephants in the wild to joining the stampede on my daily subway ride in New York. I have new appreciation for the term “concrete jungle” after suddenly (and by “suddenly,” I mean “via a 16-hour flight”) being thrust back into everyday reality.

And while we all know how tempting it is to head down the post-vacation-that’s-it-I’m-moving-to-(insert exotic city here) depression route, I’ve decided instead to celebrate the amazing people I met, and of course the incredible cuisine I tasted.

What better way to kick off the party than with a cocktail? The Tanzania 28, which was dreamt up at 28,000 feet while flying from Kenya to Rwanda, is a classic mix of fruit juice, fizzy soda, tangy citrus and vodka. And we have an in-flight juice box to thank for the inspiration! Grab a glass and check out a few of my safari photos below, then stay tuned for a second round with a recipe for a traditional Kenyan cocktail and a platefull of chicken curry from a talented Kenyan chef.
