Interested in drinking your margarita and eating it, too? You’ve come to the right place! I’ve lightened up the classic margarita, simplified the mix and frozen it into popsicle molds for a truly celebratory drink on-a-stick.

We’re talking four basic ingredients that are mixed up into the most refreshing blend:

  • Lime juice
  • Orange juice
  • Honey
  • Tequila

How Do You Make a Skinny Margarita?

The trick to mixing up these lighter, less sugary skinny margaritas is nixing the triple sec in favor of fresh orange juice. This will make sure the flavors are bright without the added sugar and calories from the sweet liqueur. Mixed up with a bit of honey, lime juice and tequila, these tart, refreshing margaritas might not make it into the freezer. And I support that.

How to Make Popsicles Without a Mold

Don’t sweat it if you don’t have popsicle molds on hand when the craving strikes. You likely have plenty of fun shaped items perfect for making popsicles. Paper and plastic cups work perfectly (and are sometimes even easier than actual popsicle molds!). I also love using small yogurt containers, ice cube trays for mini popsicles, and even mini muffin tins.

If you’re anything like me and like a spicy (or even smoky) margarita, by all means use tequila’s sister, mezcal. I love mimicking a margarita‘s salty rim by dusting these popsicles with flaky sea salt or Tajín seasoning for a bit of color and heat, too!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 0 minutes
Chilling Time 10 hours
Total Time 10 hours 10 minutes
Servings 8 (6-inch) popsicles

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup fresh lime juice (from about 6 limes)
  • 1 3/4 cups fresh orange juice
  • 2 Tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 cup silver tequila

Special equipment:

  • popsicle molds, popsicle sticks

Instructions

  • Whisk together the lime juice, orange juice, honey and tequila.
  • Pour the liquid into the popsicle molds. Freeze the molds until the liquid begins to firm, about 2 hours, then insert the popsicle sticks. Continue freezing until the popsicles are solid, at least 10 hours. When ready to serve, run the molds under warm water to release the popsicles.

Kelly’s Notes:

  • I’ve swapped fresh orange juice for the Triple Sec, but you can add a splash back in for the traditional booziness.
  • I like my margaritas more sour than sweet, so feel free to up the agave nectar if you want a sweeter popsicle.

    1. Hi there! If you’re viewing the site on a mobile device, click TAP HERE TO READ THE FULL POST and then scroll down to see the recipe.

  1. I loved this. But I am not familiar with agave nectar here. Can I use normal honey instead of that? Also can you suggest any non-alcoholic alternative for tequilla?

  2. Totally love the idea of swapping orange juice with triple sec. It’s the only right way ;)

  3. I’m thinking about doing these in icecube form for a girl’s afternoon/night punch…with some of the lime sherbet/citrus punch to add just a little kick! Though I’ll make some for myself, just have to remember which popsicles are mine, and not the kiddo friendly kind. :)

    Thanks!
