Skip the greasy takeout and whip up a fast and fresh recipe for Easy Beef and Broccoli in 20 minutes or less.

Easy Beef and Broccoli in a nonstick sauté pan, white rice in a small brown bowl and sesame seeds in a small white ramekin with chopsticks resting on top.

Yes, you read that correctly … 20 minutes! As in, you are less than half an episode of Fixer Upper away from digging your chopsticks into a big ol’ bowl of the most flavorful, tender, saucy Easy Beef and Broccoli.

Beef in nonstick sauté pan.

The classic takeout dishes (think Orange Chicken, Pad Thai and Chicken Egg Rolls) were one of my many cravings during my second pregnancy. But rather than feel the greasy guilt often associated with the heavily salted and oil-drenched restaurant versions of those dishes, I decided a fast and fresh version of beef and broccoli was a must!

Broccoli and onions in nonstick sauté pan.

There are just two tablespoons of oil in this entire dish, and you better believe it’s still packed with all that sweet, tangy, garlicky soy sauce flavor. After all, isn’t the best part of beef and broccoli the gravy-like sauce?

Nonstick sauté pan with broccoli and beef with sauce being poured into pan.

It has to be thick enough to coat the tender slices of beef and the broccoli florets, without weighing down the entire dish. And most importantly, there has to be just enough sauce so that the accompanying rice also gets a chance to soak up all that glorious garlicky gravy. Want to see for yourself? Tune in below!

Mouth watering yet? Grab your knife and get ready to slice and dice your way to Easy Beef and Broccoli that’s guaranteed to kick those takeout menus to the curb.

Easy Beef and Broccoli in a nonstick sauté pan, white rice in a small brown bowl and sesame seeds in a small white ramekin with chopsticks resting on top.
Prep Time 10 mins
Cook Time 10 mins
Total Time 20 mins
Servings 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons cornstarch, divided
  • 1 pound flank steak, cut into thin 1-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 3 Tablespoons packed light brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 4 cups small broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup sliced white onions

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons cornstarch with 3 tablespoons water. Add the beef to the bowl and toss to combine.
  • In a separate small bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 tablespoon cornstarch with the soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic and ginger. Set the sauce aside.
  • Heat a large nonstick sauté pan over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of the vegetable oil and once it is hot, add the beef and cook, stirring constantly until the beef is almost cooked through. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the beef to a plate and set it aside.
  • Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the pan and once it is hot, add the broccoli florets and sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli is tender, about 4 minutes. (See Kelly’s Notes.)
  • Return the beef to the pan then add the prepared sauce. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook, stirring, for 1 minute or until the sauce thickens slightly. Serve with rice or noodles.

Kelly's Notes:

  • To guarantee bright green broccoli, blanch the florets in boiling water then drain and dry it very well before adding it to the pan. If you opt for this additional blanching step, reduce the cooking time of the broccoli to 2 minutes.
  • The sauce must come to a boil in order for the cornstarch to work as a thickening agent.

  1. The recipe worked great, it turned out wonderful, especially using the low sodium soy sauce, it was delicious

  2. 5 stars
Easy to make! My husband had 2
Servings and he said it was really good (I’m not a good cook at all). Glad I decided to go with this recipe and not the other one I saw online. Will definitely make this again!

  3. 5 stars
Best Beef and Broccoli recipe I’ve tried!! I printed it off so I could make this one every time.

  4. 5 stars
This recipe is great! I’ve made it twice now! The whole family likes it, and it’s super easy.. (I don’t usually review recipes, THAT’S how good this is!) Thank you

    1. Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review, Theresa! I’m thrilled your family has been enjoying the recipe!

  5. Is there a low-sugar alternative? 6 tablespoons is way over the RDI. I really want to try the recipe but can’t consciously add that much into a dish that’s not at least a dessert.

    1. Hi Jessica – This recipe calls for 3 Tablespoons of packed light brown sugar but feel free to reduce it to suit your taste. :)

  6. 5 stars
Easy Beef & Broccoli lived up to its name and is so simple and delicious! I marinated the meat with soy sauce, ginger and garlic for a few hours before I found this recipe. The only other thing I added were red pepper flakes. This is going into the rotation as it was a hands down winner with everyone in the family! Thanks for such a great recipe and the special tip to ensure the broccoli stays bright.

  7. 5 stars
This was super flavorful! I was looking for a quick beef & broccoli recipe, and yours popped up. I did not have low-sodium soy sauce, so cut that to about 1/3 c. and added water. The garlic & ginger made the sauce pop! Do recommend the extra blanching or pre-steaming of the broccoli as you suggested if you don’t want it too crunchy.

  8. 5 stars
So easy and delicious. I had ingredients on hand and needed a healthy last-minute meal. It was a bit of a lifesaver! We used a little extra broccoli and a little less beef. Sending it to my daughter– crazy busy in grad school, but she’ll have time to make this.
    thank you!

  9. 5 stars
This recipe was so easy and delicious. I used leftover tri tip and it still came out great.

  10. Very delicious and definitely will make it again! Thank you for showing us readers how easy it is to make this beautiful dish!

  11. 4 stars
This is all I’ve been craving since the gyms have opened up and now I get to make it at home for meal prep. Flavor heaven. Thanks a bunch!

  12. 5 stars
Good recipe! I added some sesame oil when sautéing the beef as I love the flavor that it imparts to Asian dishes. I had some fresh mushroom that needed to be used, so added those, along with some matchstick carrots. My family really enjoyed this dish, and we will have again soon.

  13. 5 stars
Super easy, super tasty and super quick. This is a really good recipe and I will make it my new go to. I only used 1/2 the amount of soy sauce though, which was totally fine, just added water. This was to reduce my sodium, not for flavor reasons. I’m so glad I chose this recipe.

  14. 5 stars
Incredibly good sauce! I couldn’t believe I was the cook who produced it. Tasted like an up market Chinese restaurant. I did not have beef stock that other recipes required, so I found this recipe. I added more ginger, and substituted mushrooms for the onions, due to an onion sensitivity. I also used sirloin steak, because I had no flank on hand. Forgot to cook a starch, so had it without, but did not even miss it. It will now be on my regular rotation!!

      1. 5 stars
This recipe was quick and easy. My family of 7 loved it. The flavor of the sauce was just like our favorite Chinese restaurant.

  15. 5 stars
Delicious. I cut the recipe in half because I didn’t have enough broccoli and, with a side of rice, it was still able to feed my family of 3 with one serving left over. I used a coulotte (picanha) steak cut into strips and it was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Saving this one.

  16. 5 stars
At first I was like ughh fresh ginger, but just so happens I had just bought some earlier in the week, I love the way ginger smells….
Love the recipe i have to wait for hubby to get home and try it will follow up tomorrow..

    1. 5 stars
This was fast and easy! Loved it especially for a FT working mom who is pregnant and has a toddler this was perfect for me because the last thing I want to do is spend all night in the kitchen. Made with califlower rice. Great low carb option

  17. 5 stars
Holy moly! This is an absolute must try!! Hubby found this recipe when he was off work today and when I got home we made it together. My entire family was blown away and they would now like for us to add it to our weekly meal plan! Weekly y’all! It was so easy to make. THANK YOU!

  18. 4 stars
This one is a winner. This is the first time I made beef and broccoli. The kids loved it! I am going to up the broccoli next time, because I like broccoli, but also to get more broccoli in my kids. :)

  19. Be sure to use low-sodium soy sauce. I only had regular on hand which made it just a bit too salty. Otherwise it was a great recipe — we’ll definitely do it again!

  20. 4 stars
I’m not sure if I misjudged the amount of ginger necessary but this tasted more like a garlic ginger beef recipe that just happened to have broccoli and onion in it. Still very tasty, and I’d definitely make it again, but I might switch up the broccoli for some red and yellow bell peppers.

  21. 5 stars
I have never eaten Beef and Broccoli but this sounded so good I had to try it. My grown son loved it and went back for 2nds and I still have enough for dinner today. The only thing I changed was adding a little more brown sugar. This recipe is a winner and I’ll be making it again.

  22. 5 stars
Kelly!!! Girlllll! I have made this recipe EXACTLY (no kind of changes) about 3 times now!! And it’s absolutely GREAT every single time!! Thank you so much for your awesome recipe & for sharing it with the world! I have recommended it at least 5 times to friends!! Take care & keep up the amazing work!!

  23. This was awesome! It’s a good thing I made 1.5x the recipe and got 6 servings out of that. Plated with a drizzle of sesame oil, green onions and sesame seeds. Yummm!

  24. 5 stars
This was really yummy. We had grilled an extra steak and sliced it up. It gave it a nice flavor and texture. In order to keep the carbs down we used sugar-free brown sugar and went light on the corn starch. Very delicious.I originally was going to make this recipe but I’m down with my back so the hubs took over and it was delicious !

  25. I love this we make it a lot. But I would say I can never get 4 servings out of this only three.

  26. 5 stars
My husband and I really enjoyed this recipe! I get to eat a little more of it fir lunch tomorrow…I’ll make it again!
    Thanks!

  27. 5 stars
I used firm tofu instead of beef and I air fried the tofu to give it a little extra texture, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. It came out fantastic and will definitely be making it again and again and again. My bestie recommended this recipe to me and I’m a fan! Thanks for sharing Kelly :)

  28. 5 stars
Great, terrific and easy recipe! A quick weeknight meal. So tasty. My husband had seconds! ;) Thank you!

  29. 5 stars
Recipe was very simple and tasted delicious! My family loved it even my daughter who doesn’t eat veggies. Will definitely be making this dish again.

  30. 5 stars
Made this tonight for dinner! This was really good! My only problem (which was something I probably did) was that it was a tad salty. Next time I’m going to try and add a touch of honey to counteract the salt, and maybe lay off the soy sauce! Otherwise this was delicious! Thank you for the recipe!

  31. So I have been craving Chinese food and thought I would give it a try at home. I was impressed with my efforts, thank you, saving this recipe as a go to for our household. Absolute yum!

  32. 5 stars
I have searched and searched for beef and broccoli recipes that are not sickeningly sweet and this was a winner. I used leftover tenderloin and frozen broccoli florets and it was a HUGE hit with me and my family! Thanks for such a great recipe!

  33. 5 stars
This is really good, I’ve made it twice, but my beef sticks to the pan really bad. How do you get around that?

    1. Hi Rachel! Are you using a nonstick pan and are you allowing the oil to become hot before adding the beef? You might also want to try adding more vegetable oil to your pan next time. :)

  34. 5 stars
Sooo good! I substituted chicken for the beef (cause it’s what I had on hand) and added some sliced red bell pepper just because. Served over rice, and ate two full plates! 10/10, would make again!!! Can’t wait for my leftovers tomorrow. Thank you!

  35. 5 stars
Great to make this at home, so it’s healthier and so delicious. I added more ginger. I really like ginger!

  36. 5 stars
This recipe is fantastic and as easy to make as promised! I was looking for some new meals to make for my family of 4 and this was the perfect addition. I tried it a week ago for the first time and my husband has already requested I make it again! It is now his new favorite for sure and mine as well! Thank you!

  37. 4 stars
Healthy Tasty and Quick! Thank you so much! Definitely a keeper!
I used Flank steak and it was not as tender. There’s a method using baking soda to tenderize which worked before.

  38. 5 stars
Wow, This was the best, easiest beef and broccoli I’ve made yet! Thank you, you really nailed the sauce, it was perfect!

  39. 5 stars
I made this the other night and it was so easy and so delicious! Only thing I did was add some sliced water chestnuts for added crunch and next time I’ll make additional sauce because my husband and I really enjoyed it over rice and needed more. As with other recipes of yours, this one is a keeper!

  40. You know what would be a really cool addition to recipes? It seem NO ONE is doing it. That is to offer two other options: 1. “Cooking for One”–LOTS of us Sr. Citizens love to cook, but we live alone. I don’t mind having some leftovers, but I don’t want to cook for 4. 2. Include adjustments to use other leftovers–like extra roast beef (already cooked). . .
    Thanks for listening.

    1. Hi Gale! You can actually adjust the ingredient measurements by hovering your cursor over the SERVINGS above and sliding the bar right or left. :)

  41. I tried this recipe tonight. It was soooo good. I didn’t have an onion, but used up some mushrooms I had instead. I also added about a cup of water when I added the sauce. Maybe I put more broccoli (didn’t measure that). I can’t wait to try the orange chicken.

  42. 5 stars
I enjoyed it very much. Substituted a bag of frozen mixed veggies and powdered ginger cause I didn’t have fresh. I will definitely be adding this to my book of dinners, thanks!

  43. 5 stars
In my defense, I tripled the recipe the first time I made it (so it took forever to cut up my meat), and made some last second alterations but, dang it was worth it! I didn’t quite have enough corn starch so I subbed in some coconut flour (worked perfectly). Subbed in coconut aminos for part of the soy sauce (wanted the sweeter flavor profile). Splashed in some fish sauce. Added a little sesame oil (because I practically live off the stuff), and lastly I used a mix of coconut sugar and trivia brown sugar blend to keep the carbs a little lower. Also was a little lazy and used frozen, steam-in-bag broccoli but it worked great! Everyone went bonkers for it! I have no doubt it would’ve been amazing the way it was written too! :) definitely making again.

  44. 5 stars
Substituted soy sauce for 1/4 cup water and 1/4 cup fish sauce. It was amazing! Officially our family recipe! Thank you for sharing!

  45. 2 stars
Sauce was a little bland and had WAY too much garlic. I love garlic, but that is all it tastes like…I’d recommend using 1/2 or a 1/4 the amount. It also took much longer to make than it says in the recipe. Though the instructions worked out. Good base recipe.

  46. 3 stars
Am I the only one that thought this was so salty? I followed recipe to a T I had to land up adding some water and it was still so salty. Might just be me and I appreciate you posting recipes to try! I did use low sodium soy sauce, maybe I will try again and use 1/4 cup soy sauce and the rest water.

  47. This was such a good recipe. Both my husband and I loved it! Will be making again in the future :) Thank you!

  48. Simple, fast and yummy. I always thought it would be more difficult to make, it wasn’t. My roommates LOVED it!

  49. 5 stars
Amazing!!! It tastes EXACTLY like the beef and broccoli the Chinese restaurant down the street has. And it’s so quick!! It was done before we had the rice ready to go with it. We used 1/2 teaspoon each garlic powder and ground ginger instead of the real stuff and it was perfect!

  50. 5 stars
Very simple, quick recipe. My kids wanted to know which restaurant I bought it from :)

I made it with tofu for my husband wh doesn’t eat beef and it was a good substitute for the beef.

  51. I made this tonight. I thought it was delicious. I followed the recipe with the exception that I used beef broth instead of water and more of it.

  52. 5 stars
This is the best beef and broccoli recipe I’ve ever made! Super simple and easy to follow. I switched the corn starch for arrowroot flour because we don’t each it. It turned out perfectly. We’ve even made this without the beef when we make a meal with broccoli. So good!

  53. 5 stars
Love this! It’s the family favorite w the kids and hubby. I only really make when flank steak is on sale at my butcher tends to be pricy..

  54. i made this. very easy and quik to make. personal preference i found it a touch to heavy on the ginger and soy. my husband, who will drink soy right from the bottle thought it was great. next time i make it i will cut back on the ginger and substitute some of the soy for beef broth. but will definately make it again

  55. i made this. it was really good. personal preference, i found it abit to heavy on the ginger and the soy. my husband who will drink soy right from the bottle thought i was crazy. he loved it.

  56. Made it but used regular white sugar as a substitute for brown sugar because I was all out but it came out just as great.

  57. 5 stars
My family likes this dish and I love that it’s fast easy and healthy. I make it at least once a month, especially if I’m running late from work or shopping.

  58. 5 stars
We love broccoli but I usually don’t try too many different ways to cook it. I was pleasantly surprised how much my husband liked this dish. We will be adding this as one of our regular dinners

  59. 5 stars
Love, love the flavor. My husband and I found it absolutely delicious.
Can’t wait to make it for my daughter and her family.

  60. 5 stars
My husband and I loved this dish. The only changes I made were that I used ground ginger and garlic powder and added a sliced bell pepper to the mix. The flavor was delicious!

  61. 5 stars
Made this last night for my husband, he loved it so much that he wants me to make again tonight! Super easy and the only ingredient I didn’t have was fresh ginger, improvised with a little ground ginger but next time I’ll be better prepared

  62. 5 stars
I used leftover steak and frozen broccoli, it what I had in frig. It turned out great for a quick meal. I can only imagine how good it will be with fresh ingredients.

  63. 5 stars
    AH-MAZING!! Family loved it!!
Said the house smelled like a Chinese restaurant and tasted better than our local take out!! LOL
Used 1/2 sesame oil and 1/2 olive oil.
Served with side of garlicy bok choy. YUM!!

  64. 5 stars
AH-MAZING!! Family loved it!! The house smelled incredible. The said it was better than Chinese take out!! LOL
I used 1/2 sesame oil and 1/2 olive oil.
Made garlicy bok choy for a side.

  65. 5 stars
So easy to make and absolutely delicious. Easily a new easy impressive go to for me. Thanks so much.
Many more flavors then from restaurants. Yummy!!!

  66. 5 stars
Awesome! Used 1/2 sesame oil, 1/2 avocado oil, and sprinkled with sesame seeds for serving. Otherwise, followed recipe. My teenage son loved it. We will definitely put this in the rotation.

  67. 4 stars
Not sure where I went wrong but somehow ended up with no sauce lol. Still tastes good! I’ll have to try it again. Thanks for sharing :)

  68. 5 stars
Super good thank you. Because I didn’t want to go to the store, I used ground beef, and zucchini instead. The sauce was perfect for it.

  69. Wow! What a fabulous recipe! I have one picky eater and one who eats almost everything. It was a hit for both! I hope to add this to our bi-weekly menu, it is so simple and delicious ❤️

  70. 5 stars
My family LOVE LOVE LOVES this recipe. Its quick and easy, and even my picky eaters love it! It has now become a staple meal in our house because its ready so quickly and everyone will eat it (& argue over who gets any leftovers). I am not a fan of most broccoli beefs, but this is amazing. We like to double the sauce and add cauliflower when its in season. The only thing we omit is onions because picky eaters.

  71. Delicious!! I omitted the onions (I’m not a fan of them) and I added a bunch of white mushrooms and cooked them with the broccoli. It was amazing!! Made it for friends and family (double recipe) and it was gone!!

  72. 5 stars
Just made this for dinner and it came out perfect!! I added sliced carrots and a whole white onion (sliced). I would have added chili flakes but we were all out. Overall everything was delicious! I will be making this again!

  73. 5 stars
This is so good and easy, never ordering take out again. Although I did add an extra atep of dropping an open container of cornstarch on the floor, do not recommend!!!

    1. Hi Ryan! You can find the estimated nutritional info by clicking on the purple button below the recipe that says ESTIMATED NUTRITION INFORMATION. :)

  74. 4 stars
I used broccolini instead of florets. The proportions of ingredients were accurate for my taste. I crisped up the meat rather than just sautéing it. I think this recipe would work with a mix of other vegetables as well.

  75. 5 stars
I wasn’t sure if my son was gonna like it, becacuse he is very picky eater, but he did and loved it!! i also was pleasantly surprised!! will definitely be making this again

  76. 4 stars
Not sure what I did wrong, but we ended up with way too much sauce & it was very potent. The overall flavor was good, but too intense and our broccoli was swimming in it. Any ideas on what I need to do differently?

    1. Hi Heather! Did you allow the sauce to come to a boil to activate the cornstarch? That’s what thickens the sauce. If it doesn’t boil, it doesn’t thicken.

  77. 5 stars
Just made this. Great recipe and so easy! I didn’t have fresh ginger so I used the dried stuff. Still tasted amazing and my picky 2-year-old loved it! Adding it to the rotation!

  78. 5 stars
Delicious! I’m not really a measure-when-I-cook kinda girl, I just like to eyeball it. Ha ha. But I used all the suggested ingredients and probably added a liiittlee more garlic than instructed. Served on top of coconut rice. Super, super quick and easy recipe. And reheats well if you’re looking to meal prep! 100% I’m going to make this again. Oh! I used sesame oil instead of vegetable oil and sprinkled some almonds on top! Deeeeelicious!!

  79. I don’t know why I ever said anything before, but I love this recipe. I had another recipe I used which was almost identical for a few years, actually starting when I was cooking it for a pregnant person XD But I lost that one and I found this and it is the perfect replacement, maybe even a little better. I’ve probably made this 40 times now with different variations, and it never fails to please everyone ^_^

I’m actually making a backup batch for tomorrow right now with some chili oil in it, because when my kid is at school lunch can get spicy :D

Thanks for publishing it, it’s wonderful <3

  80. We really enjoyed this recipe. I forgot to grab an onion so I’m anxious to see what flavor that brings to the overall recipe. I’m also considering adding some red pepper flakes to add a kick. The whole family enjoyed.

  81. 5 stars
Best Beef and broccoli recipe I’ve made hands down! I will never search for another beef and broccoli recipe again!

  82. 4 stars
A nice easy recipe but too salty. I tried the lime juice but still salty. I think I would us half the soy sauce and replace with water. Otherwise, very good.

  83. This turned out way too salty and yes I used low sodium soy sauce. Maybe it’s the brand that is throwing mine and others recipe off. What brand of low sodium sauce should be used? Any ideas what I can add to reduce the salty flavor once it’s already cooked? I’d hate to have to throw out the rest.

    1. Hi Erin! I use Kikkoman low-sodium soy sauce. Any sort of acidic component will cut the saltiness, such as fresh lime juice.

  84. 5 stars
I am a vegetarian and used this recipe, as I do so many, by omitting the beef and using more veg – broccoli, onion, green pepper and mushrooms. I doubled the sauce and used tofu instead (next time I will use Gardein beef chunks). I used this as the basis and tweaked ever so slightly – Used a combo of fresh and dried ginger (had to make up for what I didn’t have on hand), prob more garlic than this and eye-balled the brown sugar, but used relatively the amounts noted. I used a 50/50 combo of soy sauce, braggs liquid amino’s and added about 1/4 cup of mushroom ‘oyster’ sauce. Added a little extra water at some point into the stir fry. While I dredged the tofu in the starch/water mixture, I was impatient in frying the tofu to be nice and crisp, but did fry it first and added it back at the end. We ate it over rice and ramen noodles.

I received the BEST compliment on this from my husband: “Wow. That was so good. We haven’t been able to get this flavor in any take out here (LA), and this is just like Long Island Chinese take-out.”

    (that’s a good thing)

  85. 5 stars
I’m known for being a non cook! In fact for Christmas dinner I was asked to bring crescent rolls But not prepare them. So imagine my surprise when I was able to prepare this and my husband, when asked, said it was as good as the delivered beef and broccoli we had last month! If I can prepare it successfully anyone can!

  86. 5 stars
Delicious! I don’t eat meat, but followed this recipe using rehydrated soy curls. It was absolutely delicious. I added a tablespoon of homemade BBQ sauce to the marinade, just for an additional kick of flavor.

  87. 5 stars
Hi. I’ve made this a few times now as it’s on my recipe list. Thanks for posting just a delicious and wonderful recipe.

  88. 5 stars
So fast and delicious. I had pound and 1/4 meat so I added beef broth I had in the fridge. I also added a tbsp garlic chili sauce ce and a can of water chestnuts.

  89. 5 stars
This recipe is amazing <3 There are never any leftovers. I don't add starch for a healthier option and it's still all gone!

  90. 5 stars
Excellent flavor and texture. I like the broccoli a little on the crisp side and it came out perfectly. I will definitely be making it again however I’d go light on the brown sugar.

OMG! This is best Beef and Broccoli I’ve ever had! Yes, it was easy and quick – but it sure tasted like I slaved for hours. The flavors were just perfect! I am WOWED and will make this for company! Going to go after a few more of these Asian recipes now that I know how delicious they are!! THANK YOU!!!!!

  92. 3 stars
Tried making this recipe with regular soy sauce. It was way too salty, the vegetables absorbed all the salt. I wish you provided directions on substituting with regular soy sauce, since that is all I had on hand. I will definitely be making this again with less soy sauce.

  93. 3 stars
I’m not sure what I did, but it was so salty! I didn’t add any salt. I think it could be 5 stars if I figure that out.

  94. 5 stars
Absolutely delicious! Whole family devoured a double batch. Couldn’t find Flank steak so substituted New York Strip steaks. Oh so tender. Definitely going to make again. Thank you.

  95. 5 stars
Made the dish according to the recipes but I doubled it, forgot to get fresh ginger but the family enjoyed it! Will make this dish again

  96. 5 stars
I made it according to your recipe, with a bit less ginger, a bit more garlic, a touch of sesame oil in the sauce and a shake or two of hot pepper flakes when all combined (household tastes). It was a huge hit! Everybody went back for seconds. Clean plates and compliments. Will definitely make again. Thank you!

  97. 4 stars
Turned out really good! I did think I was a little too salty even with the reduced sodium soy sauce, so next time I might dilute it a bit with some water and maybe use a little sesame oil for some extra flavor, but other than that, it’s a great recipe! Quick and easy to make.

  98. 5 stars
Really good. Use low sodium soy. My wife thought it was too salty, and we’ll also reduce the ginger by half

  99. 5 stars
I can’t believe how quick and easy this recipe is. Definitely a new family favorite.
Thanks looking forward to your other dishes.

The healthiest and easiest beef and brocoli iv tried and the taste is not compromised if anything, better!

  101. I love this Beef and Broccoli. It is so easy and I have even made this with left over ribeye and it was yummy.

  102. 4 stars
Great! HOWEVER, ginger can vary wildly in potency. Start off with 1/2 teaspoon first. I used very little ginger and it was more than enough.

  103. 5 stars
Absolutely delicious! Used fresh ginger and garlic. The only thing I did differently was replaced 1T oil with 1T sesame oil. I also used Truly brown sugar vs regular brown sugar.

  104. 5 stars
My family loves this recipe. The only difference I make is I just double the ingredients since I cook for 7 people. They all really love it.

  105. 5 stars
A very good recipe. It is important to me that the recipe did not include oyster sauce. I have this cooked this several times already. Thank you

  106. 1 star
I think this would have been good but the ginger was way too over powering. My family and I could not even finish our meals. I am very disappointed with the recipe.

  107. 5 stars
Just made this. So delicious and so easy. Wow! Have tried several beef and broccoli recipes. This is now my go to. So easy to swap out different veggies like carrots or mushroom depending on your tastes.

  108. 5 stars
A friend gave me a wok and so I wanted to make something simple. So I cooked the Easy Beef and Broccoli and I loved it. The first time I was skeptical that I couldn’t do it, but I did and it was great. The 2nd time it was fabulous. I got the feel of the wok.
Thank you for this fabulous recipe.

  109. Thank you for a beef broccoli recipe with no oyster sauce. The husband and 15 yrs old gave a thumbs up! I added sliced carrots because I did not have enough broccoli. And only used half the sauce.

  110. 5 stars
Delicious, easy, so so tasty. I added some ginger to sauté. I also followed the rice cooking steps and it made beautiful rice. Thank you!!

  111. 5 stars
I literally just made this! And I followed the recipe to the letter. It was THE BEST Beef and Broccoli I’ve ever had and I would share a picture if you gave the option. Thanks!

  112. 2 stars
I was excited thanks to the plentiful positive reviews, however, I was pretty disappointed with the outcome. The 1/2 cup of soy cause, even light sodium, was entirely too much and needs much more than 1/3 cup of brown sugar to balance the salt. Next time, I would dredge the beef with 1 part cornstarch, 1 part flour because all the crispy coating just fell off the meat after sauteeing. I should have also listened to another reviewer and added some beef stock to the sauce as it was a little thick for my liking. I would try it again, but with many modification.

Don’t think I’m crazy but my stove went kaput and while waiting to receive a delivery of the new stove cooking was a challenge. I had a toaster oven a microwave the outdoor grill and a rice cooker. Anyway I had a large piece of London broil from the grill ( lastnights meal) I had broccoli and all the ingredients to make your what turned out to be a delicious Beef and Broccoli. I have never cooked a meal in a microwave we only use it for reheating. I think having the beef already cooked was what made it so successful. I cooked each thing separately .. Cut the steak thinly .. steamed the broccoli with just a bit of water.. “sautéed” the onions I added the garlic in with them also I thought the garlic may not cook in the sauce.. I used a little butter and a splash of olive oil s&p in a covered bowl zapped it for 5 min stirred and then another 4 min. While not carmelized they softened to a nice sweet consistency. I then mixed all the sauce ingredients minus the garlic in a glass measuring cup and zapped it for 4 min it’s thickened right up I then added some broth til I liked the consistency.. I tossed everything together and the hot sauce was enough to warm up the room temp beef. I’m rambling but this was so delicious( my son said it was better then take out) I can’t wait to try it again when my new stove comes! This recipe is a definite go to from now on so easy… great weeknight meal. Thanks

  114. Forgot the bunch of broccoli when at grocer so used frozen, defrosted for 3 minutes in microwave then spread out on paper towels to dry. Cooked up beautifully and recipe was delicious. No more take out and so much faster than take out too! Thanks

  115. 5 stars
I’ve been cooking variations on this dish for quite some time. I like this the best of any (of the 5 or 6) I’ve tried.

  116. 5 stars
Quick, easy and absolutely delicious! My entire family loves it. That doesn’t happen in my world. Thank you for a new family fav.

  117. 5 stars
This recipe is so good I’ve made it 3 times in the past 2 weeks and making it again tonight! I grabbed some water chestnuts to throw in for an extra little crunch :)! It’s so quick and easy and I highly recommend it!!

  118. 4 stars
After cooking the beef there is generally some cornstarch caked onto the bottom of the wok, so I deglaze it off with a splash of red wine before stir-frying the vegetables. It adds to the flavor and makes the pan easier to clean afterwards.

  119. 5 stars
Just made this tonight. Used a sirloin steak instead of flank (it’s what I had on hand). I also added about a teaspoon of dark sesame oil to the sauce (I just like the nutty flavor it adds). Super easy and tasty! This will go into my keeper file. Thanks for a great recipe!

  120. 5 stars
My kids and sister LOVED this! I’m vegan, so I have to take their word for it, but rest assured every single plate was licked clean!

  121. 5 stars
I had leftover London Broil and did not want to make a stew with it. I found your recipe and my family devoured it! I am going to try it with chicken next. Thank you!

  122. 5 stars
Had to double the recipe for my large family. Added a little sesame oil towards the end. Big hit everyone loves it. Easy to follow. Thank you.

  123. 5 stars
Excellent, a big hit with the family! I used tri-tips sliced thin across the grain and took your advice about blanching the broccoli. The only changes I would make for our taste is a little bit less brown sugar and soy sauce. Thanks for the dinner win!

  124. 4 stars
The taste was great. Especially since I added sriracha to the sauce. My family likes it spicy!
*Technique: next time I will add all 3 tablespoons of starch to the sauce mixture NOT the meat. That should sear on it’s own.

  125. Made with noodles not rice. I found it a truffle sweet and salty for my taste, but that is easily modified with less sugar and replace some of the soy sauce with water. (Keep the volume the same to keep the right amount of sauce for your starch). But an excellent easy stir fry for weeknight dinners.

  126. Is there a link to print out the recipe/directions? It is such an inconvenience to have to watch a video to find out what ingredients are needed and how to make.

  127. 5 stars
Smelled so good my son asked to help me cook! I can’t wait to eat it. We’re sitting here smelling it while the rice finishes.

  128. 5 stars
This was soooo good.. I didn’t have any onions on hand so I used onion powder in with meat and I didn’t have fresh ginger so I used my ground ginger and it turned out soooo good.

  129. 5 stars
Great recipe! My dad absolutely loved it and so did I. I’m quite young and am starting to expand my culinary experience and this was a great start. Very easy to follow and fun. Thank you for sharing it!

    1. Hi Jennifer – I’ve never tried this recipe in a slow cooker so I can’t say with certainty if it would work. Let me know if you give it a shot!

  130. I’m sorry, but this was horrible! We couldn’t eat it. SSSOOO salty, even with the low sodium soy sauce.I don’t understand the concept of mixing the water with the cornstarch and then having the beef in it. All it did was stick to the sides of my wok. I am NOT a novice cook. And I thought would try someone else’s recipe. Decided on this one because of the reviews and ratings. Won’t make that mistake again.

  131. 5 stars
Made this tonight and my SO loved it! Added 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes because he like everything with a little heat. This recipe is a keeper.

  132. 5 stars
My husband and I loved this recipe. The flavors were spot on. This is one of the few recipes that actually got the taste exactly what you would get in a restaurant. Definitely recommend!

  133. 4 stars
Great recipe, my dad says it’s just like takeout! Would like a little more flavouring and spice, but otherwise excellent : )

  134. Instead of using blank steak I used beef stew meat (2 packages), 2 packages of frozen broccoli, frozen onions and powdered ginger.

    1. Hi there! I’ve never tried substituting a different ingredient for the cornstarch so I can’t say for certain what the outcome would be. Let me know if you give it a shot!

  135. 5 stars
Made this with Gardein brand beefless tips for a vegetarian version and added green bell pepper. Girrrrl!! So good!
    Thank you for sharing!!

  136. This was very good but a little too sweet for my taste buds. Will try this again but will reduce brown sugar to 2 Tbs.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the recipe, Mary! Looking forward to hearing your results the next time you make it! :)

  137. 5 stars
The recipe was fantastic! I added 1/4 cup of lemon juice which diluted the sauce a bit. It added some zest bit lost some bite. I would recommend only adding lemon juice if you intend to add jalopeño or red pepper to spice it up

  138. This was a quick, easy, and delicious recipe. My mother and I really enjoyed it. I’m going to share this recipe with my daughters. Thanks for this great meal.

    1. Hi Dionne! This recipe actually calls for vegetable oil but feel free to swap in whatever oil you have on hand as it won’t drastically change the outcome, just the flavor a bit. :)

  139. By golly it works!!. I love cooking and decided today to try my hand at beef and broccoli and it turned out really tasty. Thank you for sharing the recipe.

    Cheers

  140. 5 stars
Fantastic recipe, I love trying new recipes! My family loved this Beef and Broccoli recipe! Thank you for sharing!

  141. 5 stars
It was great, don’t let it cook longer than 1 min. when you add the sauce. I got interupted and cooked it too long – my fault! Easy to follow instructions.

  142. 4 stars
I didn’t have a gluten free low-sodium soy sauce, so I used regular… that was a mistake! It’s extremely salty, but other than that the flavor is perfect. I’ll definitely be trying again after I find a gluten free version of low-sodium soy sauce.

    1. Thanks, Amber! Yes, I’d def recommend using the low-sodium version (regular or gluten-free) as noted in the recipe :)

  143. 5 stars
I’m always a little scared of trying new recipes, especially when they say “easy” because you usually sacrifice something (like flavour). Not this one. It was very quick and easy, the sauce thickened to the perfect consistency, and it had all the flavour of take out without the unhealthy additives. It’s been a month since I made it and I’m still thinking about it!

  144. 5 stars
My kids & I loved the easy beef & broccoli, it was as good as take out! Not salty or greasy. My daughter said the ginger set it off. We had seconds & thirds. This will definitely be a dish I make over & over in the future.

  145. 4 stars
The recipe is simple and good but too salty. I will make it again with less soy salt and just a little more ginger!
I’m also going to try it with tofu for a vegetarian version!

    1. Hi Maria! I’m sorry you experienced that. Did you use low sodium soy sauce? And tofu would be delicious!

  146. 1 star
We did not like this recipe. Too salty from the soy sauce and no complexity of taste. I’ve tried another Beef and Broccoli recipe with fish sauce and sesame oil that had so much more depth of flavor. Will not make again

  147. 2 stars
It had a lot of flavor but it wasn’t very balanced. Sauce thickened too much. I had to thin it to make it saucy enough. Just ok.

  148. Going to try it for the first time tonight. Sounds amazing and so, so simple.
    Wish me luck

    Grampa-in-the-kitcen.

  149. 5 stars
Just made this for dinner. The recipe is so easy and so good. A true keeper, I will make it again.

  150. 5 stars
My husband and I both LOVED it!
Really easy, once you assemble all ingredients. We could eat it every week but really shouldn’t have that much beef, so wondering how it does w/chicken or even shrimp? Also, thinking of adding more veggies, keeping the protein/veggie ratio the same, of course…maybe peppers, Bok choy, or sliced carrots…anyone else try this?

  151. 4 stars
Beef came out great, but broccoli wasn’t nearly tender enough – and I sautéed it a good 5+ minutes before adding the beef back to the pan! Do you recommend adding a Tbsp. or two of water to the pan and/or a cover to help steam the broccoli? Sauce was wonderful and thickened up exactly as needed. I’ll add more onions and more garlic next time. Served with white rice cooked in beef broth. All in all, a great recipe that I’ll make again as long as I can figure out how to cook the broccoli a bit more!

    1. Hi Ginger! I highly recommend blanching the broccoli ahead of time to reduce the amount of time they need to be stir-fried. Hope this helps! :)

  152. Hello,

Do you have a recipe for the white rice that goes well with this beef & brocceli recipe?

    Please advise, thank you!

    1. Hi Alex! I’d recommend a long-grain white rice such as jasmine or basmati. Cook the rice according to the package instructions. :)

  153. 5 stars
Really great taste! I had to use potato flakes instead of corn starch. It worked good to make it a little thicker. Yummy! Thanks!!

  154. 5 stars
I almost never use up my bag of fresh broccoli so when I found your website on Google I had to try your broccoli beef recipe. I have to give the recipe 5 stars – BUT 3 stars to the chef! I thought I had low sodium soy sauce and I did to check carefully. We will pay for it in the morning when are hands are swollen

  155. 5 stars
This recipe is so quick and easy, takes me less than 30 minutes to put together. I double the broccoli because we are veggie people.

  156. What other cuts if beef might work in this recipe if I don’t have flank steak? Thanks for sharing!

  157. This is just fantastic! I left out a little bit of the brown sugar because I don’t like to add too much sugar to anything and it was excellent. I did add more garlic and more fresh ginger because I love them both but the first batch I made exactly according to your recipe and it really was great. I cannot wait to make this with fresh salmon! I also added some carrots that I blanched before. I’m going to go through your site and see what else is hiding here that is a perfect treasure

  158. 5 stars
This was really delicious! I’m 14 and am learning how to cook more, and today I cooked beef for the first time independently (though I’ve browned beef in my recipes before, I’m not sure it really counts cause it’s so simple).

I paired this recipe with lots of rice, which was so filling for myself, my mom, and my sister, both of which just got home from work to eat this supper I made for them. I substituted the ginger, onion, and garlic for similar spices I found on the kitchen shelves (I couldn’t find the fresh ingredients unfortunately), but it still came out great.

Another reason I loved this recipe is because it combined my two favorite things: broccoli and beef.

Sorry if this review was all over the place, I don’t write them often! I’ll definitely have this recipe in mind if I ever make dinner again, but I’ll probably double the portions since there’s 4 hungry girls to feed, lol.

  159. 5 stars
This was a hit for dinner tonight. I had some flank steak and wanted to try something new for dinner. Your recipe was the first to pop up on my search. I had all of the ingredients on hand and followed the directions. It came out perfectly and every one of my picky eaters was happy. Will definitely be coming back for more recipes. Thank you!

    1. Hi Lisa – The ingredient list and directions are listed above, underneath the last image of this post. :)

  160. 5 stars
Even my husband, who doesn’t traditionally like Chinese enjoyed this. I was missing some ingredients so ended up improvising with teriyaki in addition to the soy sauce, powder onion, garlic and ginger.

  161. Omg! Sooo Delicious!!
My first time to do this recipe, i was afraid at first haha but the outcome is !! Love it so muchh thank you ❤

  162. 5 stars
Quite delish! I used a bit of hot chili oil to add some zing and a bit of oyster sauce with the soy! Truly delicious! And with the current situation, takes away that longing for Chinese food! Yum!

  163. 5 stars
I made a major substitution so I can’t comment on this exactly (I only had chicken on hand instead of beef). I can say that the sauce was mighty tasty. My kids liked it with a little more brown sugar :) A dish I will add to my regular rotation!

  164. 2 stars
The sauce came out to sweet. I didn’t like it. It went from sweet to tangy. I won’t try it again. Not my favorite.

  165. I made this today and it turned out phenomenal!! I am amazed and ready to eat!! Sorry Takeout Chinese….This is a must try for everyone. Easy and delicious.

  166. 5 stars
Made this for dinner tonight and it was absolutely wonderful! Thank you for a great recipe…look forward to more!

  167. 4 stars
Very good. I added 1 T of corn starch to recipe, seasame oil to sauce and added water while cooking to thin out. Everyone liked it.

  168. 5 stars
I made this for the first time ever. I only had flour at hand and I didnt have any ginger. That being said. My 18 and 20 year old ate all of it! They loved it!
Ps. I made white rice and served the broccoli beef on top of it. Yum!

  169. I made mine gluten free by using GF cornstarch and sub organic Tamari for the soy sauce…perfect!!

  170. 5 stars
Thanks for showing us how easy this is! And delicious.

I tweak the sauce for more flavor with the addition of 1.5 tsp. chili-garlic sauce, 2 Tbsp. oyster sauce, and 1 Tbsp. sesame oil. I also like about 50% more broccoli.

  171. 5 stars
I added some 1TBS each of sesame oil and red pepper flakes to the sauce and it turned out fantastic. We served it over rice. It was better than take out. Thanks for the awesome recipe.

  172. 5 stars
Yummers! I have made this twice now and really enjoyed it. I add a tad more garlic and ginger than recommended but who can say no to more of either? This prep time usually is about 30 min for me though. Grating that ginger takes me almost 4-5 min alone! Worth it in the end.

  173. 5 stars
It was so easy and even the pickiest eater in the family ate it. The longest part of the process was slicing the beef…I used top sirloin because that is what was in the freezer instead of flake steak and I used frozen broccoli, let it sit in a bowl while I was slicing the steak…it was delicious!

  174. Very easy to make. I accidentally used 2T of ginger instead of 2 tsp. A little much but not horrible. My spouse is Philippino so hard to get too much ginger. It had enough gravy which can be hard to do. 5 star for sure.

  175. 5 stars
An easy and delicious recipe! Tastes just as good as take out! Even better, the ingredients needed for this recipe were able to be used for several other delicious recipes.

  176. 5 stars
It was one of the easiest recipes I was able to follow and it turned out great! Thanks for sharing this.

  177. 5 stars
I highly recommend this dish. It is very tasty and as the title indicates, it is very easy to make.

  178. 5 stars
This was excellent! We were looking for something different to make with our cubed beef and this worked out wonderfully. We didn’t have all the ingredients, and since it’s not a easy to run to the store during the current restrictions, we improvised a bit. We cut the cubes into thin strips, and used 1/8 tsp of garlic powder instead of the minced garlic, and left out the ginger. We also used a yellow onion instead of a white and fried it with the beef. We only had regular soy sauce and it was a bit salty, so I do recommend getting the low sodium if you can. We served it over rice. All in all it was super easy and delicious. The kids and my husband loved it. We will definitely make this again.

  179. 5 stars
For a twist, I cooked the beef in the Instant Pot with prepared sauce (without cornstarch at this point) for 5 minutes, removed meat and sauce, sautéed the onions and broccoli, re-added meat and sauce along with cornstarch and water mixture, brought to boil, stirred and voila! I added a bit of broth to thin the sauce consistency. Pressure cooking gave the beef a very tender texture. Fantastically simple, quick and so tasty. Thanks for the great recipe!

  180. How about chicken? Has anyone made this recipe with chicken breasts cut up into cubes?

  181. 5 stars
Made this tonight and everyone enjoyed! Easy to make and could not believe how delicious it was. I was a little nervous, but by the time it was ready, it smelled so good i couldn’t wait to serve it.
We all had 2nds, and the kids said they would have it again. :)
Glad i found this recipe. Thanks!
