How to Freeze Fresh Herbs

Ingredients  

  • Fresh herbs (e.g., basil, rosemary, thyme, mint, dill, oregano)
  • Olive oil (enough to cover herbs in each ice cube)

Instructions 

  • Wash and pat dry your fresh herbs. Tear or chop them finely if desired for better distribution in the oil.
  • Place chopped herbs into each compartment of an ice cube tray, filling about halfway.
  • Pour olive oil over the herbs in each compartment until they are fully covered.
  • Place the tray in the freezer and let it freeze completely, usually about 4-6 hours or overnight.
  • Once frozen, pop out the herb cubes and transfer them to a resealable freezer bag or airtight container. Store in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Notes

  • Use a variety of herbs for different flavor profiles.
  • No need to thaw before use—add directly to your cooking.
  • Great for soups, sauces, sautés and dressings!
