Table of Contents
I’ve been on a serious cottage cheese recipe kick lately, and this whipped cottage cheese dip might be my favorite one yet. It’s light, herby, ridiculously creamy and packed with protein (about 14g per serving!).
As a mom always on the hunt for easy, nourishing snacks, I love that it takes just 15 minutes to make and can be used in so many ways: as a veggie dip, a spread, even a high-protein toast topper. And while I’ve been known to eat it straight from the spoon, my favorite way to serve it is as a veggie dip—surrounded by fresh-cut vegetables, ready for dunking.
Why Blend Cottage Cheese?
If you’ve only ever scooped cottage cheese straight from the tub, you’re missing out! Blending it turns those little curds into something totally different: thick, smooth and incredibly creamy. It’s like the love child of ricotta and Greek yogurt. It reminds me a lot of my whipped Brie cheese—same dreamy texture, just with a tangy, high-protein twist.
And speaking of protein, cottage cheese is loaded with it, making it perfect for all kinds of recipes. I’ve used whipped cottage cheese as a dip (like this one, or my cottage cheese pizza dip), a base for creamy pasta, even in my cottage cheese pizza crust. It also works beautifully in sweet dishes—think fruit-topped breakfast bowls or even blended into cottage cheese cheesecake. Once you blend it, the possibilities are endless!
- Cottage cheese: I like using full-fat or 2% cottage cheese for the creamiest texture. You can use low-fat, but heads up—it tends to be thinner and can turn out a little watery depending on the brand.
- Garlic powder & onion powder: Add depth and that classic savory kick without the sharpness of fresh garlic or onions.
- Fresh dill, chives & parsley: This trio brings bright, fresh flavor and makes the dip taste like summer. You can play with the amounts or sub in your favorite soft herbs (basil and thyme are delicious swaps!).
- Salt & pepper: Round out the flavors. I start with a teaspoon of salt and adjust to taste depending on how salty the cottage cheese is.
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
- Add the cottage cheese to a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute.
- Just look at how silky smooth this blended cottage cheese is!
- Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, dill, chives, parsley, salt and pepper. Mix with until well combined.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve immediately with your favorite crudités or stash it in the fridge for snacking all week.
- Blend it really smooth. Let your food processor or blender run for at least a full minute and scrap down the sides if needed—you want it really creamy.
- Fresh herbs make a difference. I know it’s tempting to reach for dried, but the flavor from fresh dill, parsley and chives is next level here.
- Season to taste. Give it a taste after stirring in the herbs and spices, then add a little more salt, pepper, garlic or onion powder if it needs a boost.
- Trouble blending? Just add a splash of water to help it along. A few tablespoons should do the trick.
- A note about protein: The protein content may vary depending on the brand and fat content of the cottage cheese you use.
Not Just a Dip: My Favorite Ways to Enjoy this Whipped Cottage Cheese
Spoiler alert: This whipped cottage cheese with fresh herbs is so much more than just a dip! Here are a few of my favorite ways to enjoy this high-protein snack:
- As a spread on toast. Go savory with sliced tomato and Everything Bagel seasoning, or sweet with fresh berries and a drizzle of honey.
- As a smear on sandwiches or wraps. Swap mayo for this herby cottage cheese spread for a lighter, protein-packed upgrade.
- As a side with eggs. Serve it alongside a soft-boiled egg and toast for a high-protein breakfast you’ll actually crave.
- As a dip. This is how I first imagined this recipe being served! Carrots, cucumbers, snap peas, pita chips and crackers all welcome.
And honestly? I’ve eaten it by the spoonful straight from the fridge. No shame in that game!

Instructions
- Add the cottage cheese to the bowl of a food processor or blender and blend until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute.
- Transfer the whipped cottage cheese to a medium bowl then stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, dill, chives, parsley, 1 teaspoon kosher salt and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Taste and season the dip as desired.
- Serve immediately with veggies or chips for dipping, or store covered in the fridge for up to 3 days.
