We’re just weeks away from my favorite food day of the year: Super Bowl Sunday, which means I’m officially in snack-planning overdrive! These cheeseburger sliders have become my go-to for the big game—ever since I first made them for a friend’s birthday party, they’ve been requested at every event since.

These sliders are the ultimate party appetizer or potluck dish because you can whip up a dozen burgers in minutes. Or, serve them for a quick and easy family dinner. One bite of these cheesy, beefy sliders on Hawaiian rolls, and you’ll see why they’re always a crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

No soggy slider buns here! Adding a layer of cheese on the bottom acts as a barrier against the juicy beef, keeping the Hawaiian rolls perfectly soft and intact while baking.

Sliders ingredients: King's Hawaiian Rolls, ground beef, sesame seeds, butter, cheddar cheese and dried onion soup mix.
  • Ground beef: Use your go-to lean ground beef for these sliders. My personal favorite is Snake River Farms Wagyu Ground Beef (you can grab two pounds of it in my curated Cook Once, Eat Twice Box!)—it’s incredibly juicy and full of flavor.
  • Dried onion soup mix: My secret ingredient (and ultimate shortcut!) for flavorful cheeseburgers is Lipton’s Onion Soup and Dip Mix. This multipurpose seasoning blend packs a punch of savory, oniony flavor without the hassle of caramelizing onions. It’s my go-to for quick, delicious burgers that taste like you spent way more time on them!
  • Hawaiian rolls: These soft, sweet rolls are the perfect base for sliders. I love the Original King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls because they taste delicious and come connected, so all you have to do is slice the loaf in half horizontally, layer on your toppings and bake. Feel free to swap in your favorite store-bought rolls or try my recipe for homemade dinner rolls instead.
  • Cheese: Use your favorite! I used sharp cheddar for that classic cheeseburger flavor, but pepper jack, Swiss, provolone or even a smoky Gouda would be amazing. And since we’re layering cheese both under and over the beef, why not mix it up with two different kinds?
  • Melted butter: Brushed on top of the rolls for that signature golden finish.
  • Sesame seeds: Sprinkled on top for a classic burger bun look and a subtle nutty crunch.

How to Make Hawaiian Roll Cheeseburger Sliders

Cooked burger meat in a skillet.
  1. Cook the beef. In a large skillet set over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and onion soup mix. Cook, breaking the meat apart with a spatula, until it is no longer pink. Carefully drain any grease from the pan.

  1. Cut the Hawaiian rolls horizontally and place the bottom half on the baking sheet. Now it’s just a matter of assembling the sliders.

Add Your Favorite Burger Toppings!
Pile on crispy bacon, juicy tomatoes, bread and butter pickles, lettuce, avocado or caramelized onions—anything you love on a burger works here! For game days or parties, I like to set up a toppings bar so everyone can build their perfect slider. Hosting a meal instead? Plan for 2-3 cheeseburger sliders per person—they’re that good!

Make Ahead Instructions

These Hawaiian roll sliders can be assembled up to 24 hours ahead, covered tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerated. (To save even more time, the ground beef and onion mixture can be cooked up to 2 days in advance and stored in an airtight container in the fridge.) Wait to brush the tops with melted butter until just before baking.

When you’re ready to serve, take off the plastic wrap, brush the rolls with butter, sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake as directed. Since the sliders will be cold, you may need to add a few extra minutes to the baking time to ensure the beef is warmed through and the cheese is perfectly gooey.

How to Store and Reheat

I like to store leftover cheeseburger sliders wrapped tightly in aluminum foil—it makes reheating a breeze. Keep them in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, pop the foil-wrapped sliders into a 350°F oven for 10-15 minutes, or until warmed through. Keeping them wrapped in foil ensures they stay soft, but if you’re craving a toasty top, just remove the foil for the last few minutes.

If you’re in a hurry, a quick zap in the microwave works too, but the oven is best for that fresh-out-of-the-oven taste.

Best Sides to Serve with Sliders

Cheeseburger sliders are so versatile! On game days, I love serving them as an appetizer alongside other crowd-pleasers like slow cooker buffalo chicken dip and beer-battered onion rings. They’re also the perfect size for little hands so my kids ask to have them for dinner all the time. I’ll usually pair them with fresh veggies and homemade French fries.

And don’t forget the dipping sauces! Spicy ketchup, mustard, beer cheese dip, or my personal favorite, Thousand Island dressing, take these hamburger sliders on Hawaiian rolls to the next level.
