Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip

Skip the eggs and free up valuable oven space with no-bake Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip! RECIPE: http://bit.ly/2yL5VTi

I’m on a serious dessert dip kick lately, and what better way to follow up last week’s peanut butter cup s’mores dip than with a no-bake take on everyone’s favorite cookie? Ditch the eggs and skip the stove with this recipe for easy, creamy Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip.

There’s good news, and there’s bad news. The good news is this cookie dough dip takes only 5 minutes to make. The bad news is you may be forced to share it with others.

And much like the secret ingredient chocolate chip cookies that inspired this recipe, you will not be subscribing to the sharing-is-caring mentality after you get a taste of this creamy confection. So go on and grab the oversize bag of pretzels and let the dipping and dunking begin!

Ingredients You’ll Need

This cookie dip is made without flour or eggs for a gluten-free and totally safe to eat cookie dough that’s irresistible. Grab these ingredients to make this 5-minute dessert recipe:

Glass bowls containing ingredients for cookie dough dip, including vanilla extract, butter, sugar, salt, brown sugar, cream cheese and chocolate chips.
  • Butter and cream cheese: You’ll want these ingredients chilled so the dip doesn’t get too soft. Use full-fat block cream cheese for the perfect creamy consistency.
  • Sugars: You’ll need both granulated and brown sugar for this recipe to give it that classic cookie flavor.
  • Vanilla extract: Use pure vanilla for the best flavor. You can also use DIY vanilla extract!
  • Chocolate chips: I prefer semisweet chocolate chips but any variety will work in this recipe, including mini chocolate chips and chocolate chunks.

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

For the best texture and creamiest consistency, I recommend using a handheld mixer or stand mixer for this sweet cream cheese dip. Don’t have either one in your kitchen? No problem! Just grab the sturdiest spatula you have and get ready to stir.

  1. Cream together the butter, cream cheese and sugars. Keep mixing until you reach a smooth and creamy texture.
  2. Add the vanilla and salt. Mix just until combined
  3. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  1. Serve and enjoy! Transfer the cookie dough dip to a serving bowl and place it on a platter surrounded by pretzels or fresh fruit for dipping.

Recipe Tips

  • If you prefer a sweeter dip, halve the cream cheese amount or add additional sugar until you reach your desired level of sweetness.
  • You could also add chopped nuts if you want a little bit more crunch.
  • If your dip seems thin, pop it in the fridge for an hour or two and it’ll firm up perfectly for dipping.
  • Make it ahead! This party dip can be made up to 2 days in advance. Store it in an airtight container in the fridge then give it a good stir before serving.

What Do I Serve with This?

When it comes to serving chocolate chip cookie dough dip, the possibilities are endless and oh-so-delicious. Here are some of my favorite dippables that perfectly complement the creamy, sweet goodness of this dessert dip:

  • Graham crackers
  • Pretzels
  • Fresh fruit (strawberries and apple slices are my favorite)
  • Potato chips (trust me, this combo is insane!)

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

      So glad you enjoyed it!

  2. Courtney says:

If the cream cheese taste is too much, what should we add for sugar and brown sugar to keep the ratio somewhat equal?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Courtney! You can add 1 additional tablespoon at a time until it reaches your desired sweetness.

  3. Ginger says:

      That would be delish, Mary!

      1. Rebecca says:

Any suggestions on ingredients… Cut back on one thing add a little bit more of another (maybe cream cheese?)
        Thoughts

      2. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Rebecca – I’ve never experienced that before. Did you use block cream cheese or whipped cream cheese from a tub?

I made this for my cheer team, and they have been asking me for weeks to make it again. It was super easy to put together. I used mini chocolate chips and served it with Nilla Wafers and animal crackers in addition to the pretzels. Delicious!

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

LOVE reading this, Kelly! I’m so happy you and your cheer team enjoyed the dip!

  7. Emily says:

I made this dip for a little get together and it was a hit! I used a handheld mixer and creamed butter & cream cheese first really well.

One suggestion would be to lighten up on the vanilla. I only put in 1.5 teaspoons and some thought it was too vanilla flavored. Maybe start lower then add more to taste!

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Thanks so much for your note, Emily! I’m thrilled you enjoyed the recipe!

  8. Sue says:

    5 stars
Really easy to put together. I chose both strawberries and pretzels for dipping. Everyone loved it!

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Woohoo! I’m so happy to read this, Sue!

  9. Sophie says:

I don’t have a stand mixer – what do you recommend?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Sophie! A handheld mixer will work great, or if need be, a very sturdy spatula. :)

  10. Destany says:

  14. Karen says:

Made it just as directed. Delicious! Thank you for sharing. Made it into mini “ice cream” sandwiches with chocolate wafers and rolled edges in mini chips for a party. They were a hit!

This definitely doesn’t taste anything like cookie dough, not even a hint but it was still yummy after i got over it not tasting like what i thought it would taste like. very heavy on cream cheese flavor but hubby liked it so ill make it again, just might try adding something to make it a tad sweeter maybe?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Jennifer – You could try adding additional sugar or halving the cream cheese amount to make it sweeter. Let me know if you give it a shot!

      1. Jennifer says:

thanks, I definitely plan on doing it again so ill try your suggestions!

      2. Kelly Senyei says:

  19. Sher says:

Have you ever tried to make this recipe ahead of time and frozen it?

  20. PaulaDiLaura says:

This recipe has become a staple in my bulk snack making along with jello n pudding. I put it in 5oz serving n the grandbabies have it with animal crackers. Who am I kidding the adult children Google it up too.

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

haha! Love this! I’m thrilled everyone is enjoying the recipe, Paula :)

  21. Felicia says:

Hi, I was wondering if the butter and cream cheese need to be softened ahead of time? Thank you.

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

No need! You’ll actually want them chilled so the dip doesn’t get too soft :)

  22. Pam says:

JUst wondering how much is 1 serving? 2 tablespoons?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Pam! The yield will vary (since there are varying ways to measure the amount of chocolate chips added, etc.), so the total recipe serves 8.

  23. Madison Miller says:

Very yummy! Absolutely love love love yhis recipe!! Thanks to the reviews I ended up only adding 2 oz. of cream cheese and it taste great! I might bit use cream cheese next time but otherwise great easy recipe! Thank you so much!

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

So glad you’re enjoying it, Madison!

  24. Cali says:

Could you use regular butter instead of unsalted ?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Sure, but I would recommend reducing or leaving out the 1/2 teaspoon salt.

  25. Dana D says:

i wonder if adding confectioners sugar would cut down on the heavy cream cheese taste? I’ll give it a try

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi there! I’ve never had this taste strictly like cream cheese and many others have also commented that it tasted great. You could try adding additional butter or halving the cream cheese amount if you don’t like the flavor. Hope that helps!

  26. Aubrie says:

    4 stars
The recipe was absolutely delicious. However it tastes nothing like cookie dough and everything like cheesecake. So even though I loved it and it tasted wonderful with fruit. I was sad bc I was looking forward to a cookie dough taste. Pretty sure it was due to the heavy cream cheese taste. Either way though I’ll be making it again

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Thanks for your comment, Aubrie! Feel free to try adding additional butter or halving the cream cheese amount in the future. :)

  27. Michelle Trench says:

    5 stars
My daughters and I just made this for a fun afternoon snack. It was delicious! We added chopped pecans and especially liked it with pretzels and strawberries. Great recipe!

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Love your addition of pecans, Michelle! I’m thrilled you and your daughters enjoyed the dip!

  28. Joshua Gribben says:

    4 stars
This was an amazing recipe! I had to try this out because it’s so unique! I noticed there is many variations of dessert dips like this; however, I, nor anyone at the party, has ever had anything like this before. My favorite sort of thing to bring to events– great convo starter! :) 100% will make this again.

I have 2 minor critics: like other reviews state, the cream cheese taste is very strong. Next time, I plan to alter the recipe to counteract this. Imitation vanilla works much better for no-bake recipes such as this because it doesn’t have the minor, alcohol taste.

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Thanks so much for your comment, Joshua! I’m so thrilled you enjoyed the recipe!

  29. Amy@RidingWithEsther says:

Oh my goodness… WOW. This looks amazing! Thinking about all the variations I could do right now… nutella, caramel, peanut butter, more nutella… Thank you so much for this recipe! Really happy that I stumbled across your blog.

  30. Kim Rubin says:

This is a really good treat. My only suggestion would be to use imitation vanilla (I use McCormick Baker’s Imitation Vanilla Extract as it’s actually pretty good for a fake). When using real vanilla extract in baked goods (which I always do), the alcohol will bake off and you won’t taste it. But here, you don’t bake the dough, and I can really taste the alcohol, which gives it an off putting taste. I remade it using the imitation vanilla and it was perfect!

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Thanks so much for your note, Kim. I’m glad you enjoyed the recipe!

  31. Lacy says:

    5 stars

Hi Kate! I’ve never tried this recipe without the brown sugar or with a substitute so I’m not certain what the results would be. Sorry I can’t be of more help!

  36. Linda says:

Can’t wait to try the cookie dough recipe for my daughter but since Kay’s tasted like cream cheese I think I will try putting some flour in it to help take away from the cream cheese taste! Thanks Kay for the heads up on that!

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Linda! No flour needed in this recipe! I’ve never had this taste strictly like cream cheese and many others have also commented that it tasted great. You could try adding additional butter or halving the cream cheese amount if you don’t like the flavor. Hope that helps!

  37. Sue Gerend says:

Can I freeze this cookie dip??

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Sue – I’ve never tried freezing this dip so I can’t say for certain what the resulting taste/texture would be.

  38. Kay says:

    3 stars
Loved how easy this recipe was, but unfortunately mine tasted very much like cream cheese. I think I’ll only put half next time and see.
I definitely miss the original texture of cookie dough because this was very very creamy but a fun new treat. Hoping it will be a hit at a party tomorrow.

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Kay! You could try adding additional butter or as you mentioned, use only half the amount of cream cheese.

  39. Erin Lynch says:

    3 stars
This was REALLY sweet. I thought it was more like a frosting than a dip. (I could imagine it would be really good on a dark chocolate cup-cake.)

  40. Danny says:

    how much does it make

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Woohoo! Thrilled you enjoyed the recipe, Nicole!

  44. Brendan says:

What if you don’t have a stand mixer? Can you still make this?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Definitely! A handheld mixer will work great, or if need be, a very sturdy spatula.

  45. Monica mendoza says:

Can this be frozen.. so as to add
    Tonice cream??

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Monica! I’ve never tried freezing this dip so I can’t say for certain what the resulting taste/texture would be.

    2. Ryan says:

Did you end up freezing this? How did it come out?

  46. Rachel says:

    How much does this yield?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Rachel! It totally depends on how much you’d count as a serving :) In my house, maybe 4 to 6.

  47. Julie says:

I think there was too much salt. I would say maybe use about half of what it calls for.

  48. Danielle Degarmo says:

Just tried this recipe for a spa party for my 10 year old sister and everyone loved it! We used strawberries, banana chips, and pretzels to dip! Will definitely be making again!! We added in some chopped pecans and funfetti sprinkles for an extra crunch! was a fun treat and didn’t last long, we ended up making 2 batches for the 16 girls

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Love hearing this, Danielle! So glad everyone enjoyed the dip!

  49. Kelley says:

Do we not need any flour bc mine didn’t work!

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

No flour needed in this recipe! It’s a dip and is not baked so it should be very creamy.

  50. Melissa says:

So I read the comments after I followed the recipe to a T. Mine didn’t taste like cream cheese, I love it! I know it’ll go over great tonight at my sisters house :)

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

So glad you enjoyed the recipe, Melissa!

  51. Irene says:

I wish I read the reviews before I made this because mine turned out to taste just like cream cheese rather than cookie dough. I also tried to add more sugar to kill the taste but didn’t work.

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Irene – Sorry to hear you didn’t have success with this cookie dough dip recipe. I have never had this taste strictly like cream cheese and many others have also commented that it tasted great. You could try adding additional butter or halving the cream cheese amount if you don’t like the flavor.

  52. Jessica says:

Is there any butter subsitute for this recipe by chance?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi there, Jessica! I’ve never tried this recipe with a butter substitute so I’m not certain. Sorry I can’t be of more help!

  53. Maria says:

I followed the directions to a “T” – yet it taste like the cream cheese. My daughter had cookie dough dip at a party and loved it….taste nothing like this. I added more sugar, brown sugar and vanilla after to try to calm down the taste of the cream cheese….no luck. Does your dip taste like cream cheese?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Maria – Sorry to hear you didn’t have success with this recipe. I have never had this taste strictly like cream cheese and many others have also commented that it tasted great. You could try halving the cream cheese amount if you don’t like the flavor.

    2. Nicole H. says:

Mine also tasted just like cream cheese. Did you ever find a solution to fix it?

      1. Lindsay Robertson says:

Add 1/2c-1c powdered sugar, most similar recipes call for powdered sugar in it. I make it and add the powdered sugar and kids love it.

  54. Tish says:

If I don’t have a stand mixer can I just use a hand mixer or will it not turn out right?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

      That should work!

  55. Veronica says:

How can I make this if I don’t have a mixer?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

      A handheld beater works!

  56. Nichole says:

I just made this and it is really good! I am not even a big cream cheese fan but had some on hand that needed to be used up, and I am not disappointed. I found it tastes amazing inside of a strawberry! Similar to a chocolate covered strawberry.

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

      So glad you enjoyed it!

  57. Alyssa Boyd says:

So, i just made this and it is very liquidy almost like cake batter, it tastes very good but i cant even get it to stay on my pretzel without it dripping through. What should i do?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Alyssa – It sounds like it may have been overmixed or the ingredients were too warm. You can just pop it in the fridge for an hour or two and it’ll firm up perfectly for dipping!

  58. Jillian says:

How many servings would you say this makes? Great recipe by the way!

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Thanks, Jililan! Totally depends on how much you’d count as a serving :) In my house, maybe 4 to 6.

  59. Laine says:

I was a little hesitant when I read that this could end up tasting like cream cheese only (since I didn’t have any kind of back up plan for a potluck tonight) but this wasn’t my experience at all! It’s so good and definitely reminds me of cookie dough. I did use half a cup of mini chocolate chips and half a cup of normal sized ones and that was plenty but I think that was due to the minis. Will definitely try this as written next time, it’s so easy. I used a hand mixer and served with pretzel dipper sticks and graham crackers. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

So glad you enjoyed the recipe, Laine! It’s one of my all-time favorites :)

  60. Mari says:

I need this for a party, but I have to make it the day before? Will it still be ok?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Absolutely! Just keep it in an airtight container in the fridge then stir it before serving. Enjoy!

  61. Lauren says:

I didn’t even add the whole 8oz. Of cream cheese because I knew it would be to much and it is still all I can taste. I’ve tried adding more sugar and vanilla but it’s just not working…… What should I do?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Lauren – I have never had this taste strictly like cream cheese but you can try adding additional butter or halving the cream cheese amount if you don’t like the flavor.

  62. Taylor says:

I made this and it tastes good! I dded an extra half teaspoon of vanilla and half cup of sugar because the cream cheese taste was a bit too strong. I paired it with pretzels like the photo!

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

So glad you enjoyed the recipe, Taylor!

  63. MaiDer says:

    Can i use imperial butter?

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

      Sure!

  64. Emma says:

I made this for a work potluck. They loved it! I paired it with graham crackers which worked well! Thanks for the great recipe.

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

So glad you enjoyed the recipe, Emma!

  65. Jennifer says:

Can you make it with salted butter? I thought I had unsalted but I was wrong and can’t make it to the store today

Absolutely! Just leave out the extra salt.

Thank you so much for posting this with sugar instead of powered sugar. My girls love it with graham crackers. So for our girls week we are going to make this.

  67. Kathy Hart says:

But if u double the recipe, put it in a graham cracker cost and refrigerate, it can be a pie

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

      Love this idea, Kathy!

  68. Shannon brady says:

Put this in a gram cracker pie crust and it was absolutely amazing!

      Yes! Great combo!

  70. Regina H says:

No, it can’t bake. It’s just cream cheese and butter. No flour, eggs, or leavening. If you tried to bake this, it would be a gooey, runny, sticky mess.

How many servings does this recipe make? Looking to make it with my students in our cooking lab :)

    1. Kelly Senyei says:

Hi Tara – It totally depends on how much you’d estimate each person eating, and with dips, that can be tricky!

Awesome Dip! My daughter’s volleyball team loved it.
