Add a spooky twist to your party lineup with a recipe for sweet and salty Halloween Snack Mix (a.k.a. Spooky Party Mix) starring the perfect blend of crunchy cereals, toasted nuts, chewy caramel corn and festive candies.
Table of Contents
You know what’s truly frightening? A Halloween party snack table without a bowl of Halloween snack mix. What I love most about this spooky party mix is that it covers all of the flavor and texture essentials. It’s sweet and salty, crunchy and chewy.
Best of all, it’s totally customizable! Not a fan of candy corn? Swap in another festive favorite like Raisinets or Milk Duds. Prefer to go nut-free? Simply omit the pecans and save them for those 5-star favorite pecan pie bars. This Halloween Chex mix is perfect for using up any leftover candy, and the only real rule is that you enjoy every last handful of this delicious cereal mixture.
Of course, no Halloween snack table is complete without a variety of spooky treats. Pair this mix with some Cheesy Breadstick Bones or Mini Bagel Mummy Pizzas for an epic spread of hauntingly good bites!
- Mini pretzels: For that salty crunch we all love.
- Chex cereal: Any variety works, but I love the crispiness of Corn Chex.
- Bugles: These corn snacks add a fun shape (they look like witch hats!).
- Caramel corn: If you have the time, I highly recommend making my homemade caramel corn recipe. It’s sweet, buttery and takes just 10 minutes to prep.
- Toasted pecans: For a toasty, nutty bite. Roasted peanuts would be delicious, too!
- M&Ms: Halloween-colored M&Ms make this party mix extra festive!
- Candy corn: A Halloween staple that adds a pop of color and sweetness.
- Pumpkin jellies: These little pumpkins bring the cuteness factor to the spooky mix.

How Do You Make a Halloween Party Mix?
Some snack mixes require mixing, seasoning and baking (hello, Original Chex Party Mix!), but I chose to go the short, sweet and simple route with this cereal mixture. All you’ll need is a large bowl and all your salty and sweet snacking favorites.
Take this mix in whatever direction you choose; I will only advise making sure you have a balance of salty and sweet flavors. I toss together eight total ingredients, so four salty and four sweet would be ideal when choosing your own snack mix adventure.
What Kind of Candy Works Best?
I like to make sure there’s a good balance of textures and flavors when it comes to candy. That way, any time you get a handful, you get a little bit of everything. In this case, I use M&Ms, candy corn and pumpkin jellies as my candies to strike that balance, but feel free to experiment and use what you’ve got.
Substitutions are a breeze in this recipe! Raid your pantry and candy stash for any and all varieties of cereals, nuts, pretzels and popcorn to personalize your blend. I love the saltiness of Bugles and pretzels, but Cheez-Its, barbecue potato chips or white cheddar popcorn would also be welcome additions.
You can even add spooky-themed candy like edible candy eyes or brain-shaped gummies for a fun and creepy twist.
Storage
Store your Halloween Chex mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. It’s perfect for making ahead of time, and you can even pack it up in individual bags as cute party favors for guests!
