16 Best Pasta Salad Recipes

Skip the deli counter and go the DIY route with these easy pasta salad recipes that deserve a permanent spot at your picnic table all summer long.

Pasta salad recipes, including the viral Caesar pasta salad, tortellini pasta salad, Chinese chicken pasta salad and classic macaroni salad.

I repeat, skip the deli counter! While those plastic tubs might be convenient, nothing beats the flavor and texture of a homemade pasta salad. I’m talking tender pasta, crunchy vegetables and DIY dressings that actually cling to every bite.

From creamy classics to bright, veggie-packed favorites, pasta salad is one of my most-made dishes for picnics, potlucks, backyard barbecues and easy summer dinners. The best part? Most pasta salads taste even better after a little time in the fridge, which means you can make them ahead and let the flavors mingle while you focus on the fun part, actually enjoying the gathering.

Below you’ll find a collection of my favorite pasta salad recipes, from classic favorites to bold, flavor-loaded bowls that double as a full meal. Something tells me a few of these are about to hold a permanent spot in your summer rotation.

1. Greek Pasta Salad with Red Wine Vinaigrette

Greek pasta salad with feta, tomatoes, cucumbers and olives in a large serving bowl.

This classic pasta salad has been my go-to for years! It’s loaded with crisp veggies, briny olives and crumbled feta, but the real star of the show is the simple, yet flavor-packed red wine vinaigrette.

2. Chicken Caesar Pasta Salad

This is THE salad of summer. Whenever I’m asked to “just bring a salad” to a barbecue or picnic, this is the dish I bring. It stars crisp Romaine, your noodles of choice and diced rotisserie chicken tossed in the most epic DIY Caesar dressing (anchovy paste optional!).

3. BLT Pasta Salad

BLT, but make it pasta! Swap the bread for your noodle of choice in this quick-fix salad loaded with crispy bacon, refreshing romaine, juicy tomatoes and crunchy croutons. The star of the show? A simple homemade red wine vinaigrette made with garlic and honey. No mayo means you can serve this salad chilled or at room temp!

4. Zucchini Pasta Salad

Perfect for using up all that fresh garden zucchini. This one comes together with zucchini ribbons, protein-packed chickpeas, crunchy pistachios and sun-dried tomatoes, all tossed in one seriously stellar lemony vinaigrette made with Dijon mustard, garlic and honey. I love pairing this with pan-seared salmon for a light and fresh summer meal.

5. Chinese Chicken Pasta Salad with Sesame Dressing

This is the salad I bring when I want something bold and flavor-packed. Tender chicken, crunchy veggies and pasta are tossed in a sesame dressing that’s sweet, savory and seriously good.

6. Classic Macaroni Salad

A serving bowl containing macaroni salad with diced red onion, diced celery and diced red bell pepper, all tossed in a creamy homemade dressing.

You can’t talk about pasta salads without including the classic. This creamy macaroni salad is the one that always shows up at picnics and barbecues, and always disappears first.

The “I need to bring something impressive but I have no time” recipe. Juicy chicken, tender pasta and bright basil pesto come together fast and taste like way more effort than they actually are. Store-bought pesto works, but homemade pesto makes it unforgettable.

8. Asparagus Pasta Salad with Italian Dressing

The pasta salad of asparagus season. Bright, crisp and simple enough to let the fresh ingredients shine. A good zesty Italian dressing ties it all together and makes it taste like pure spring.

9. Thai Chicken Pasta Salad

This Thai-inspired pasta salad is a fun twist on traditional flavors and stars a super creamy peanut dressing made with coconut milk, fresh lime juice, soy sauce and brown sugar. It’s savory, salty and a touch sweet, with the optional addition of a little spice from red chili flakes. BONUS: This recipe is great meat-free or with the addition of juicy chicken breast.

10. Greek Tortellini Pasta Salad

All the flavors of my classic Greek pasta salad, but with cheese-filled tortellini instead of traditional noodles.

13. Greek Orzo Salad

It’s loaded with crisp veggies, creamy feta cheese and orzo pasta tossed in a quick-fix DIY dressing. Best of all, it maintains its flavor when chilled or kept at room temp and can be made a day in advance.

14. Chilled Ramen Noodle Salad with Peanut Dressing

Chilled ramen noodle salad with edamame and shredded carrots, all tossed in a homemade peanut dressing.

This crunchy, flavor-packed salad is one I reach for whenever I want something a little different at a picnic or potluck. Crisp veggies and ramen noodles get tossed in a creamy peanut dressing that’s sweet, savory with a touch of zing from fresh lime juice. It’s one of those recipes that sounds a little unexpected and tastes absolutely incredible.

15. Soba Noodle Salad with Peanut Dressing

Soba noodle salad topped with peanuts and cilantro in a dinner bowl. Chopsticks sit on the edge of the bowl and small bowls containing more peanuts and quartered limes sit behind it.

Nutty soba noodles, crisp vegetables and a creamy peanut dressing come together in this refreshing salad that’s light but packed with flavor.

16. Mediterranean Couscous Salad
