Cheesy Chicken Taco Pizza

from 2 votes

Looking for a pizza that’s packed with flavor and easy to make? Look no further than taco pizza! Pizza dough topped with refried beans, ground chicken (or beef!), cheese and all your favorite taco toppings. It’s the best of both worlds!

Cheesy taco pizza topped with refried beans, shredded lettuce, jalapeños, cojita cheese and diced tomatoes.

Tacos, meet pizza. Pizza, meet tacos. Now that everyone is acquainted, we can all join forces for one seriously easy and cheesy taco pizza piled high with all of the classic fillings-turned-toppings.

I like to start with my favorite pizza dough and top it with refried beans, cheddar cheese and seasoned ground chicken for a zesty twist. After a quick bake in the oven, I pile on classic taco fillings like shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, sliced onions and a drizzle of sour cream.

But the best part? You can customize it with your favorite extras like guacamole, salsa or hot sauce. And with endless possibilities for toppings, this taco pizza is sure to become an instant family favorite. It’s perfect for busy weeknights when you want something quick, easy and seriously delicious.

Ingredients

Various sizes of glass bowls containing ingredients for taco pizza, including pizza dough, shredded lettuce, refried beans, dried oregano, diced tomatoes, ground chicken, sliced red onion, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, and shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Ground chicken or turkey: Or use whatever ground meat you prefer (ground beef is one of my favorites, too!), including plant-based ground meat for a vegetarian option.
  • DIY taco seasoning: To give your ground meat that classic taco flavor, you’ll need a blend of garlic powder, onion powder, ground cumin, dried oregano and salt.
  • Lime juice: Adds a tangy brightness to the taco meat, balancing out the savory flavors.
  • Pizza dough: Try homemade pizza dough if you have time. It’s simple and yields great results. If you’re short on time, use 1 pound of store-bought dough or try my no-yeast pizza dough recipe
  • Refried beans: Instead of the usual marinara sauce, we’re switching things up with a creamy layer of refried beans as the flavorful base.
  • Shredded cheddar cheese: For that gooey, cheesy element we all love. Feel free to mix in other cheeses like Monterey Jack, pepper jack or a Mexican blend.
  • Toppings: Top it off with all your favorite taco fixings! From crisp lettuce and juicy tomatoes to sliced red onions and dollops of sour cream. If you’d put it on a taco, you can put it on a taco pizza!

How to Make Taco Pizza

This culinary hybrid combines two of my favorite foods into a meal-in-a-slice that conveniently covers (almost) all of the food groups.

  1. Preheat your oven to 500°F.
  2. Cook the ground chicken. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to a large sauté pan set over medium heat. Add the ground chicken, DIY taco seasoning and lime juice and cook, breaking apart the chicken, until it is cooked throughout.
  3. Roll out the dough. Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into your desired shape and thickness. Liberally cover a baking sheet (or pizza stone) with cornmeal then transfer the dough onto the baking sheet.
  1. Assemble the pizza. Spread the refried beans on top of the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Alternately sprinkle the chicken and cheese on top of the beans.
  1. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the crust is fully baked and golden brown.
  2. Add fresh toppings. Remove the pizza from the oven and top it with all your fresh toppings. Slice and serve immediately.

Layering is key. Start with the refried beans as the base, followed by the cooked ground meat and then the cheese. Add any fresh toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, and onions after baking to keep them crisp and fresh.

And don’t forget the margarita popsicles for dessert!

Tips and Tricks

  • Get creative with your toppings! Sliced olives, crispy bacon, corn, diced avocado, jalapeños, crushed tortilla chips, ranch dressing–the options are endless.
  • But don’t add too many toppings that your pizza crust doesn’t cook.
  • Not a fan of refried beans? Swap in salsa as the base!

  1. 5 stars
I know I haven’t eaten this yet, but still giving it 5 stars, because it sounds YUMMY. Could I use salsa or Taco sauce as a base and add other ingredients as listed? This sounds totally AWESOME…..can’t wait to try it.

  2. Why have I not done this before?! Pizzaco is proof that putting two awesome things together just make it even better! Great idea to add the fresh ingredients after baking too! Must try.
